English medium schools all over Gauteng participate in an English Speech Festival once a year. Laerskool Menlopark is one of two Afrikaans medium schools that participates in this prestigious event. At this festival, pupils from gr.1-7 have the opportunity to participate in a variety of sections including:

• recital of a prepared poem
• group poetry
• unprepared sight reading and
• unprepared speech

Adjudicators of a very high standard do the judging and certificates varying from gold ++ to bronze are awarded to each pupil.

ENGLISH PUBLIC SPEAKING

Pupils are encouraged to prepare a speech on a given topic and present it to a professional adjudicator during the public speaking evening at school.
